Logic Puzzle #7 WLP

I’ve decided to start a collection of logic puzzle videos after completing the great Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box DS game. I’ll add a WLP (Weekly Logic Puzzle) every Monday. These puzzles only require thinking, and there shouldn’t be a need for any outside knowledge about the puzzle. The puzzles will have small modifications to other logic puzzles I already know, making this a unique collection. Music: www.newgrounds.com

The Making Of The 7th Guest (Part 2)

This is part 2 of the Making Of The 7th Guest video. Check my other videos for part 1. This tape was included with certain copies of the ground breaking computer game, “The 7th Guest”. T7G was the first game to really take advantage of the CDROM medium when it was released in 1992. Full motion video, a beautifully rendered environment and creepy atmosphere drew the player into the complex and interesting story line. The player travelled through the mansion of demented toy maker Henry Stauf solving logic puzzles from the easy to the complex all the while unravelling the mystery of the guests and indeed his own existence. Stauf taunts the player though the game with a mixture of insults, clues and fragments of how the mystery is playing out. On the technical side the game was a real triumph of the time. Full screen full motion video was used to advance the plot. The environment was a breathtaking pre-rendered 3D mansion, and the high quality (both MIDI and non-synthesized) audio added to the feeling of reality. Note that to all you MYST fans, The 7th Guest did it first and better.

Logic Puzzle #6 WLP

I’ve decided to start a collection of logic puzzle videos after completing the great Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box DS game. I’ll add a WLP (Weekly Logic Puzzle) every Monday. These puzzles only require thinking, and there shouldn’t be a need for any outside knowledge about the puzzle. The puzzles will have small modifications to other logic puzzles I already know, making this a unique collection. I’ll add a new puzzle every day for 7 days to kick this off. Please leave comments about what you think about this plan of mine. I think it will be a lot of fun. ^^ Music: www.newgrounds.com

Nancy Drew: Secret of the Old Clock (Part 4) – Mrs. Farthingham

A video guide of me playing “Nancy Drew: Secret of the Old Clock”. In this section, I talk on the phone to George and Bess. I explore a bit and find Richard Topham’s place. We give a mouse to Uri the Cat, then talk to Topham for a bit. He gives us some logic puzzles, which are solved with relative ease. Then we talk to him some more.

Bird Intelligence: The New Zealand Kea

The Kea (Nestor notabilis) is one clever parrot. Its curiosity and intelligence is important to its survival in the blustery winter environment on the South Island in New Zealand, and this translates into a remarkable skill at solving logic puzzles, such as the one in this clip. From the Animal Planet documentary “The Most Extreme: Episode 10: Thinkers”, narrated by some annoying git. Logic Puzzle Rainbow Town (Sega Saturn JPN) 10X10 Color

Logic Puzzle Rainbow Town is probably one of my favorite nonogram games. You may know them by the name of picross, paint by number, oekaki or even logic puzzles. Whatever the name, I am a big fan. This game incorparates color in the puzzles which can add a whole new layer of depth and makes you rethink your strategy. Pictured is a pretty easy 10X10 Color puzzle, one of many found in the game. Definitely worth a look for fans of the genre that own a Saturn capable of playing japanese games.

Using problem based learning and recreational logic — Part 2

Dr. Mar is the founding director of the Stony Brook Philosophy Department Logic Lab. In this lab faculty use games and puzzles, robots, and logic programs to teach logical and critical thinking and to create a community in which students can meet and get excited about logic and philosophy outside the classroom. Games encourage students to form learning communities to master the formal techniques of reasoning and to play games that develop logical skills in teams (eg Siamese chess or bug house, go, and three or four dimensional tic-tac-toe). Gary uses recreational logic puzzles (eg, manipulatives such as the Rubics Cube) to illustrate logical concepts such as the concept of an algorithm for problem solving. Dr. Mar uses pedagogical strategies to reduce stress around tests—such as having practice exercises a few days in advance of the official examination, creating cheat sheets, and collaborative peer tutoring. One advantage of this approach which makes use of retrospective learning is that often the time after cramming for an examination is when the unconscious mind can process the material and come to an aha! moment when the material makes sense as a coherent and integrated unit of knowledge.
