The scrolls of Kumr’an are among the most precious treasures of human civilization. They contain all scrolls of the Jewish Bible (except Esther scroll), and many previously unknown books, which shed light to the sectarian beliefs of the late Second Temple age in Judea under Roman rule. The books proved to remain unchanged threw two millenia of rewriting by Jewish scholars, proving the ancient roots of Judean culture and religion. Sectarians of Kumran are thought to spark the fire of rebellion against the Roman empire with their apocalyptic prophecies of doom’s day and the battle of light and dark. The rebellions indeed brought doom and destruction upon Judea and most of its people, and ironically wiped out the community of Kumr’an. Their beliefs have heavily influenced the early Christianity, while were strictly opposed by the rabbinic Judaism, introduced by the survivors of Jewish Roman wars in Yavne and Galilee, who have learned the danger of such philosophies.

Nat Riddles – Cross My Heart
“Cross My Heart” is a song by the late blues harp player Nat Riddles, released on the record “New York Really Has the Blues, Vol. 4″ in 1983 on the Spivey label (Spivey LP 1035). This LP is out of print for a long time and therefor very hard to find. But I got hold of a copy and I digitized it. So that’s why I can share this rare recording of Nat Riddles now with all the harp players and blues lovers anywhere. On this track Nat was joined by a harmonica player named Junius Williams. Non-profit. Copyrights remain to the original holder and is here only used for the purpose of education, comparison and/or criticism. No infringement of copyright is intended.

Cystic fibrosis: proteins are riddles!
www.cafepress.com Cystic fibrosis (also known as CF, mucovoidosis, or mucoviscidosis) is a hereditary disease affecting the exocrine (mucus) glands of the lungs, liver, pancreas, and intestines, causing progressive disability due to multisystem failure. Thick mucus production results in frequent lung infections. Diminished secretion of pancreatic enzymes is the main cause of poor growth, fatty diarrhea, and deficiency in fat-soluble vitamins. Males can be infertile due to the condition congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens. Often, symptoms of CF appear in infancy and childhood. Meconium ileus is a typical finding in newborn babies with CF. Individuals with cystic fibrosis can be diagnosed prior to birth by genetic testing. Newborn screening tests are increasingly common and effective (although false positives may occur, and children need to be brought in for a sweat test to distinguish disease vs carrier status). The diagnosis of CF may be confirmed if high levels of salt are found during a sweat test, although some false positives may occur. There is no cure for CF, and most individuals with cystic fibrosis die young: many in their 20s and 30s from lung failure. However, with the continuous introduction of many new treatments, the life expectancy of a person with CF is increasing to ages as high as 40 or 50. Lung transplantation is often necessary as CF worsens.
