The Kea (Nestor notabilis) is one clever parrot. Its curiosity and intelligence is important to its survival in the blustery winter environment on the South Island in New Zealand, and this translates into a remarkable skill at solving logic puzzles, such as the one in this clip. From the Animal Planet documentary “The Most Extreme: Episode 10: Thinkers”, narrated by some annoying git. It’s not just Keas, many parrots rate high on the spectrum. Reportedly, their brain-to-body ratio is comparable to that of higher primates, and it mentions in the video the challenges and survival advantage to more resourceful individuals in the frozen hill country.
Got another segment on African Greys (considered among the smartest animal species), but I’m trying to find the same story with a different narrator.
